John Burns Author Visit Information

The Hamlin School invited John Burns and Pengey Penguin to their Annual  Fund Raiser February ’08. The event  hosted a marvelous book fair with most of the currently popular books from all the major publishing houses.

The three day event sold both “Pengey One” and “Pengey Two” - and had total sales of 142 -- a tidy boost of over $1000.00 just from Pengey Penguin sales for Financial Aid and Teacher Enrichment Programs. Wow!

Mr. Burns lives in San Francisco and plans to visit other schools in Northern California during the ’08 school year.

He will be traveling in Southern California in late Autumn of ’08. If you would like to to have John visit your school please contact us at

or call us at 415 640-2627

In all honesty it’s best to just call the office. You might even get John at his desk. We try to book him a year in advance, especially in out of California visits.

What we do is coordinate the travel time so that Mr. Burns can visit many schools in a specific geographical area and reduce his expenses of travel and lodging.

  1. 1.Cost of a visit to your school $300 to $400 depending on how many other schools we can schedule during John’s visit to your conner of the world.

  2. 2.Your school’s fund raiser will receive 40% of the proceeds from the sale of Pengey books.

  3. 3.We provide the flyer to send home with your students  so that they can pre-order the books.

  4. 4.John personalizes each copy to the student.

  5. 5.We wrap each copy separately to preserve the dust cover and to make a special book even more treasured.

The Many Adventures of Pengey Penguin is simply fabulous - Five Stars

This beautifully crafted novel will appeal to the explorer in all of us.  It’s a story about a tiny penguin who uses his intelligence, and courage, and the lessons his parents taught him to survive from one challenge to the next day’s challenge. How he avoids certain disaster and remains so humble and polite is what make this charismatic little penguin so charming and his story so endearing.

Pengey is a perfect book to wean the curious child from picture books and introduce them to the written story. It’s perfect for a classroom, family read aloud, or anytime reading.

I am amazed to see how kids of all ages seem to gravitate to this wonderfully told story and connect with Pengey. So many life lessons and natural science all wrapped up in between the covers. It’s a story that’s full of hope but is never preachy.

The adorable black and white ink drawings make it easier for small children to envision Pengey's adventures.

This terrific hardbound storybook makes a wonderful addition to any school or home library collection.
